There’s No Crying in Hockey!

Switching gears today from martinis and mascara to cross checking and penalties!  That’s right kids…its Thursday and the Bruins are going into Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead to the Capitals.  I am very much looking forward to a good old fashion beating tonight!  Especially after Karl Alzner’s childish antics…making a cry-baby gesture to Lucic.  Really Alzner???

Love how Alzner’s tone changed after the game claiming he was reacting to the Bruins’ complaints about the officiating, not calling Lucic a crybaby.  Way to try and dig yourself out of the hole…but I don’t think it’s going to stop the Big Bad Bruins from kicking your ass!  My money’s on Lucic buddy!

Lucic’s comment after the game says it all…“I don’t even know what to say coming from my side to show that I’m not a crybaby,” he said. “That’s a lot to say coming from a guy that has two roughing penalties in three years, so there you go.”

As for the Capitals…they were the ones that were left crying after that game.  Let’s see what happens tonight!

Back in Action

I know I know….I’ve been a very bad blogger!  It’s been a crazy few weeks!  We were out in Park City last week and it was an amazing time.  Had never been out west to ski, I can tell you it was by far the best skiing I’ve ever done!  It was just so easy!  Beats Northeast skiing any day.  We also got to spend some quality time with Justin’s family….or should I say my future family….since we were engaged the day before we left!   Hence the reason I have been so MIA!

Its been a whirlwind.  Its already been a tad stressful looking at venue locations.  Its insane how much money is in the wedding industry!  They are ripping us all off I tell ya.  You shouldn’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to celebrate love!  But I am sure we will end up finding a perfect place and everything will fall in to place.  Fingers crossed!!!!

Mascara & Martinis may end up sounding more like Mascara & Matrimony so bare with me!  There may be a bit more posts relating to all things wedding but I promise to still blog about makeup, recipes, beauty tips, etc!

Here are some pics from our trip and of course…the ring which Justin did SUCH an AMAZING job with…GORGEOUS!

The infamous OPUS ONE….we finally drank for a “special occasion” after holding on to it for 5+ years and the lovely proposal…..

We’re engaged…WOOWHO!

Now these next 2 were from a hike we did up in the mountains on the first day. For those of you who know me, know I am NOT a hiker by any means…hiking to me is going to the outlets or mall! BUT…I must say…it was such an amazing view from the top…and I am so glad I accomplished it. And its definitely difficult climbing with the already high altitudes!

How amazing does that resort in the window look. That’s the Montage and I can tell you first hand…the place is GORGEOUS…and the spa is to die for! Its gigantic! If you’re ever in Park City, you need to check it out.

Hanging in the lodge….with my ring of course..

Just some meat cooking by the fire…

Top of the mountain in Park City

Look a little closer…that’s a massive hole in Justin’s pants. Keeping it classy!

Dinner in town…love Main Street!!!

I promise, next Monday….I will be back to posting daily and be a good blogger.  Until then, have a great weekend!!!!

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!

I’m sure everyone knows the popular “Squares” game for the Superbowl but I thought I would add some other fun games to play during the Super Bowl to mix it up a bit! Don’t get me wrong…I love me some squares but to add a little more excitement to your Super Bowl party…see below!

For a fun gambling game at your Super Bowl party have everyone chip in an equal of real money ($10, $20, etc) into the pot. Give everyone an equal amount of Monopoly money at before the start of the game. Everyone will use their Monopoly money to bet on anything and everything related to the game or the broadcast (an over or under on how many times Myra Kraft is mentioned or if Madonna will have fishnet stockings on!). The person with the most Monopoly money at the end of the night wins the real money in the pot (or you can split it 80/20 for first and second place, whatever you would like).

Along the same lines as the first game, another fun game is the “Keyword Game”. Before the start of the game, you make a list of about 10 words that you think you’ll hear throughout the course of the game. And you can also assign drinking values – “Rematch” you drink once, “David Tyree’s catch in Super Bowl XLII” you drink twice….you get the idea.

Another fun game is to write up the names of all the key players on the Giants and Pats….put names in the hat and everyone picks. Every time that player is involved in a play, you are able to pass out a drink.

And when in doubt, you can always keep is simple with a SuperBowl Trivia game. At halftime or before the game, quiz your party people on Super Bowl factoids. The person or team with the most correct answers is the winner!

Just make sure that everyone knows to bring cash to the party. You don’t want to have that token person at your party that never has cash on them and is looking for an IOU!

iPhone Tips!

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  I know I sure did, although I feel like a walking zombie today for some reason even though I got a solid 9 hours of sleep!?!?!   And its back to the gym today and of all things, bootcamp.  It’s going to be a rough start to the week but soon enough, I can be back in my jammies!  Loser…I know!

Just an quick FYI….for those of you who are big Beatles fans, I highly recommend seeing Rain.  Its probably the best Beatles tribute band around.  It was really great how they start in the very beginning with their custome tailored suits and move throughout the years and change customes to keep up.  It was really great!!!!

Anyways…this weekend I discovered a few new iPhone apps that are awesome as well as a awesome iPhone party tip! I couldn’t wait to share!

First up….CardStar!  This app lets you manage all of your reward cards and club membership cards.  Basically you just scan in your Stop and Shop, CVS, DSW cards and it will upload the card number and ready to use.  You can get rid of all the million cards are your keychain and just have your iPhone with all of your reward cards, etc!  It makes life so much easier.  I even uploaded my AAA number in case I’m ever stuck and don’t have my card!  Genius I tell ya!

This other little tid-bit came in handy this weekend at the 30th I was at. If you are in an area that doesn’t have any speakers, you can use a cup/pot to amplify the sound. The speaker port on the iPhone is at the bottom of the phone. If you place the phone in the cup, it acts as a small speaker. Its not a perfect substitute for actual speakers but works great if you are in a bind or a garage playing beer pong.  And Solo cups do just fine as well!

And those Antipasto Skewers I mentioned last week…I didn’t get a chance to make them but plan on doing so for the Superbowl so I will definitely keep you posted!

I have a dream to……

*Vacation wherever this paradise is.

*Someday have a kitchen in my house this fabulous.

*Look like Marisa Miller…from the body to hair to face.

*Own a pair of Louboutins before I die.

*Live on the ocean and have an excuse for this AMAZING shower/tub combo. Yes please.

*Have the style and grace of Jennifer Aniston (and the beauty and hair too…why not, its my dream)

*Marry my best friend…and an extra big rock wouldn’t hurt!

*Visit Paris and eat nothing but cheese and drink nothing but wine.

*Own a “summer house” in Nantucket.

*Have this fabulous bedroom with this fabulous bed!!!

Masshole Sports

Today post is a little unconventional (well for Mascara & Martinis).  I know I usually post about whatever new beauty trend or favorite product but today I wanted to share another thing I love dearly – Boston Sports.  I felt this post was warranted considering the big Playoff games this weekend!!!  Patriots will be playing the hated (well in my book he is) Tim Tebow and the Broncos.  Last time we played these fools, we beat them 41 to 23 and I have no doubt we are going to crush their playoffs hopes on Saturday!!!!

And today, while perusing sports sites, I came across this website that may be my new favorite….  It has some of the funniest pictures with commentary and trash talking I’ve ever seen.  Take a look at some of my favorites….

Minnesota Vikings running back, and fantasy football legend, suffered a torn ACL and MCL on Christmas Eve. But more importantly, he was carted off the field by what appears to be Stevie Wonder.

If you are from Mass and are a sports fan….I highly suggest you add this to your favorites.  I promise tomorrow’s post will be more “mascara & martini” related!!!!

Merry Christmas to all….

Hello All!

I will be taking a little hiatus of sorts and will be back blogging next Tuesday!  (and sorry for lack of post yesterday….doesn’t help when you have no internet for 6 hours at work…awesome huh!)

Anyways….I hope everyone has a fabulous holiday and hopefully white Christmas!  I am very much looking forward to spending some quality time with the family and celebrating my nephew’s first Christmas!….not to mention be off of work for 4 days…SCORE!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Making Spirits Bright

Oh Monday…how I loathe thee!  Weekends are just too short.  On the bright side, I do have a 4 day work week so I guess I can’t complain!   This was a great weekend filled with lots of family time.  I always cherish the time I spend with my nephew Ryan….I swear he’s grown so much in the 2 weeks I haven’t seen him.  It’s amazing!  And we were able to catch up with some of Justin’s family in town from Florida which was great!   And of course, Sunday Funday (which makes for a not so fun Monday) but well worth it!

With Christmas in 2 weeks, holiday parties are in full swing.  I don’t know about you guys but I try not to show up empty handed to a party (house party mostly).  A bottle of wine is great to bring as a host gift during the holidays.  Here are a few ideas to make the bottle you contribute stand out among the rest of the little wine soldiers…

This cheers bottle tote is made from wet suit material so it will keep your wine cool for hours.  This would be great in the summer with a bottle of pinto grigio!

My favorite and probably the cheapest of these ideas is to use a paint pen from a craft store and just write on the bottle. Super easy and the best part, when they go to drink the wine, they will remember who it was from 🙂

These wine sleeves are so cute and unique especially during the holiday season. Plus I’m sure you have old sweaters lying around that you will never wear again…perfect use for it!

Or you can recycle an old dress shirt like these I found on Etsy…

Lastly, you can wrap the gift in a kitchen towel with a pretty ribbon….its cute and practical!

Cold Kicker

TGIF Everyone!  So glad to get through this week and know that the next 4 work weeks are at the most 4 day weeks.  I can definitely deal with that.

I wanted to share this little cold kicker tip I found on Beauty Bets (definitely a new favorite).  With the weather in the Northeast finally getting chilly and seasonable, its only a matter of time before everyone is getting hit with the nasty cold and sinus infections!  This detox bath seems to be a great DIY treat to give you some relief and mend those achy muscles.

1. Run a hot bath. It opens pores and prepares body for cleansing.
2. Add three pints of food-grade hydrogen peroxide (3%). This oxygenates the body and helps purge toxins. It’s also antibacterial and antiviral.
3. Add two ounces of ground ginger, a natural anti-inflammatory that increases blood circulation and helps promote the elimination of toxins through sweat.
4. Soak for about 30 minutes.
5. Drink lots of water; You need to replenish what’s being pulled out of your system.

After the bath, they say the sweat will start to pour out of you which is good – get rid of the nasty cold lingering inside!  The next time I get hit with a cold, I’ll definately be doing the Detox Bath!

Black Friday Do’s and Don’ts

Happy Thanksgiving Eve Everyone!  Hopefully you have a short, easy day and get a jump on traffic.  I’m looking forward to going home, spending time with family and friends and eating like I am going to the chair!

I am also looking forward to Black Friday this year!!!  Usually I have one big ticket item in mind every year but this year, no specific items needed which means who knows what I’ll come out of the store with.  Of course I am referring to gifts for myself!  Sure I’ll pick up some other Christmas gifts here and there but usually my first stop is for myself.  I guess a little selfish but I can’t help myself with a good deal.  Hello Fur Vest….Come to mama!

My mother, sister and I have been going out for Black Friday for several years.  Along the way, I have come up with some of my own Do’s and Don’t’s for Black Friday.  And I am not one of those crazies that go out on Thursday night, but 4am Friday morning start is more my style.  Also, just a little tip for us Massholes…Massachusetts law allows stores to open at midnight on Black Friday, but does not allow employees to work before that time, causing retailers to re-consider their openings.

Here goes…

DO dress comfortably.  Usually I wear leggings (because let’s face it, probably still stuffed and bloated from all the food you consumed on Thursday and leggings are just easy and comfy).  Comfy sneakers are a must and layers, layers, layers….some of the stores can be super hot but bopping around from store to store outside may get chilly.  Comfy T-shit and long zip-up is my go-to.

DON’T assume that all stores open at the same time.  As I mentioned, Massachusetts is a little funky with when they can open so call on Wednesday or Thursday to double check opening times in your area before venturing out on Black Friday.

DO pick up the paper on Thursday morning (and early too because they tend to sell out).  Retailers will put their flyers and sometimes even coupons in the paper.  Make sure all the flyers and deals are in the paper before you purchase (some people will take the flyers out of them).  I know you can look online but it’s not the same as looking through all the flyers and making a game plan.

DON’T believe the best deals are in the stores.  The past few years, a lot of the great deals in the store have now moved over to the internet.  And a lot of these sites will still offer “doorbusters” so to speak.  Check out to see all deals in the stores and online.  There is also a search area that is super helpful!

DO start your morning with a coffee and donut.  You will need the caffeine to wake you up and the donut is just an extra sweet treat!  And really people, one donut after the 10 pounds of food you will eat, what’s the big deal.  My rule is let the crap-eating and not working out last until the end of the week – fresh start on Monday!

DON’T get aggravated (ha…I know, this coming from me).  As easy as it is to get frustrated with the long lines and big crowds, remember that’s it’s the start of the holiday season which is a such a great time of year.  Take your patience pills before you go and just enjoy the holiday spirit and all the stellar deals out there!!!!

DO leave the big purse at home. A crossbody bag that’s large enough to fit your wallet, phone, a snack of some sort and some water is all you need, anything else will just get in your way.

OK, there you have it, my dos and don’ts to ensure that you all have a successful Black Friday!

Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

xoxo, J
